Summer Workshop Info
Yearbook Cover Design
Each school attending the Summer Yearbook Workshop is assigned a time to meet with one of our Graphic Design artist to develop a first draft sketch of their yearbook cover for next year. Schools should come with ideas, visuals, etc. to share with the artist. We will have samples of materials, applications, etc.
Yearbook Program Consultation
In this session the adviser and editors will have round table discussion with a veteran yearbook adviser from an award winning program on ways to improve an aspect of their yearbook program. This "move the needle" session is intended to help you brainstorm ideas and solutions to the aspects of yearbook that have had the greatest challenges. Participating schools will be required to submit their topic in advance. Examples include theme development, writing, photo management, portrait sections, club sections, ad sales, etc.
Photography - Basic Cameras
This session will be led by Krista Walker. Krista is the yearbook adviser at Pleasant Valley High School and she is also a freelance photographer for the Anniston Star. This class is for anyone with any kind of camera. What makes a picture a good one? How's the lighting? Should I crop it? All of these questions and more will be answered. Please bring your camera.
Photography - Advanced/SLR Cameras
This session will be led by Krista Walker. Krista is the yearbook adviser at Pleasant Valley High School and she is also a freelance photographer for the Anniston Star. If you have ever picked up a camera and wondered "what do all those buttons do?" You will learn how to use the manual mode, how to adjust for lighting, ISO differences, shutter speed, continuous shooting, and so much more. As a group, we will shoot test photos indoors and out, answer your questions, and even provide you with a "cheat-sheet" for you to use at home. Be sure to bring your camera! Point and shoot cameras are welcome, but this class will focus on SLR adjustable cameras.
Yearbook Business Manager
This course is designed for advisers and staff business managers responsible for book sales, ad sales and revenue generation. Discussion will include setting up book and ad offers, entering sales, tracking towards goals, marketing and promotions.
YearTech Online Design Basics
Jostens YearTech Online design site is the only patented yearbook design technology in the industry and is a multi-year award winner of the Interactive Media Awards. In this course participants will learn the basics of "YTO" such as the Page Ladder, Image Library and Page Designer. Participants will learn how to upload and organize photos, navigate to their assigned pages, utilize template designs, place photos, custom format text/photos/shapes. This class is intended for new staff members or those who need additional training on the basics of the site.
Yearbook Online Design Advanced
Jostens YearTech Online design site is the only patented yearbook design technology in the industry and is a multi-year award winner of the Interactive Media Awards. In this course participants will learn some of the most popular advanced steps in using the site. Participants will learn how to create folio templates, create text wrap, text flow, advanced photo effects, portrait page tips, customizing from templates, etc. This class is intended for staff member who have already worked on the site at least one year.
YearTech Online - Advisers
There are certain tasks, features, benefits, etc. that are specific to the "Adviser" level login and role. This course is for yearbook advisers only and will focus on top tasks you will need to know to effectively manage your staff and guide them through the yearbook creation process.
Plant Meet and Greet
This session is for Advisers and Editors only. This session will be led by Randy Bush and Yvonne Lewis. Randy and Yvonne are veteran Plant Consultants from the Clarksville, TN production plant. They will share about the role of the plant, the consultants, etc.
